Expense Divider privacy policy
Last updated: 25 October 2026 · Operator: MSK Developers, Sonipat, Haryana, India · mohitdeveloper@outlook.in
The short version
- Expense Divider keeps a record of shared expenses so a group can see who owes whom. Only the members of a group can see that group.
- It never moves money and never asks for banking passwords, UPI PINs or OTPs.
- No ads, no analytics, no selling or sharing of your data.
Signing in with Google
When you continue with Google we receive your Google account identifier, email address, name and profile picture, and keep them to run your account. Your account is identified by the Google identifier, not by your email. We never see your Google password and don’t access anything else in your Google account. You also choose a username and a default currency.
What you and your groups store
- Groups: name, description, icon or photo, currency and members.
- Expenses: title, amount, date, who paid, how it was split and each person’s share, notes and an optional receipt photo.
- Payments recorded between members (settlements): amount, who paid whom, date, note and whether the receiver confirmed it.
- Activity history: what was added, changed or deleted in a group, and by whom.
Everything in a group, including photos and receipts, is visible to that group’s members only. Photos and receipts are never published on the web; the app fetches them for signed-in members.
Invitations
To invite someone who isn’t in the app yet, a member enters their email address. We store that address with the invitation so that only the matching Google account can accept it, and members of the group can see it. The invitation link is random, expires after 14 days, and contains neither the email address nor any internal identifier. We don’t send emails ourselves: the member shares the link through WhatsApp, Gmail or another app of their choice. Until the person joins, expenses can be split with them by email; if they never join, a member can remove them from those expenses and cancel the invitation.
Payment details
You can add a UPI ID, bank transfer details or other ways to be paid. They are shown only to members of a group you share who currently owe you money, on the screen where they settle up. Other members, and people outside your groups, can’t see them. A payment link (such as a UPI link) only pre-fills a payment app; a debt is never marked as paid because someone opened it.
Finding people
Other users can find you by your username, or by typing your exact email address. Search results show your username, name and profile picture, never your email address.
Storage, security and retention
Data is stored by MSK Developers on our hosting, in a MySQL database, and is only sent over HTTPS. Sign-in sessions and invitation links are stored only as one-way hashes; app sessions use access tokens that expire within an hour. We keep your data while your account exists. Server error logs are kept for up to 12 months and don’t contain expense details.
Deleting your data
- Edit or delete an expense or a group (if you are its admin) in the app.
- Delete your account in the app (Profile → Settings) or at mskdevelopers.com/expense-divider/account. You need to be settled up in every group first.
- Deleting your account removes your name, email address, username, profile picture, payment details and sign-in sessions immediately. Expenses and payments you shared with others stay in their groups under “Deleted user”, because the other members’ balances depend on them. A group you were the last member of is deleted completely.
Children
Expense Divider is not directed at children under 13.
